In wonderful news for sci-fi and music fans, the iconic John Williams tells Variety he’ll be writing the music for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Ready Player One and the next Star Wars installment. Reports Variety:
He plans to begin work on Spielberg’s next film, “Ready Player One,” in November, and then next year expects to do the next “Star Wars” film. “If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley,” he quips.
The 84-year-old is fresh off scoring next month’s The BFG and, of course, last year’s The Force Awakens. Spielberg presented Williams with the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award last night; he was the first composer to receive the organization’s highest honor in its 44-year-history.
